Alexandre Desmarais is an associate in our Business Law Group in Montreal. His practice focuses on corporate finance, banking services, project financing and mergers and acquisitions. Alexandre represents mainly financial institutions and businesses in corporate finance transactions in Canada and around the world.

Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Alexandre worked in corporate finance, banking law and general business law at a global firm, and in the commercial real estate financing section of one of North America's largest institutional investors.

Alexandre’s recent experience includes:

  • Legal advisor to a Canadian bank, as administrative agent on a C$400 million cross-border financing of a leading waste-management business offering container and compactor rental, natural gas use and other specialized services;
  • Legal advisor to Bank of Montreal, as lender in the refinancing of a leading cutting-edge Canadian logistics warehousing transportation and distribution company, including a construction loan for its land acquisition and warehouse construction project;
  • Legal advisor to National Bank of Canada, as lender in the refinancing of a leading Quebec-based travel tour operator;
  • Legal advisor to a financial institution, as administrative agent on a syndicated subordinated cross-border financing in favor of a global LED lighting leader, in connection with its acquisition of a majority stake in a U.S. company; and
  • Legal advisor to the Bank of Montreal, as lender in Gen V’s acquisition of Les Serres Royales. This transaction positioned Gen V as the largest greenhouse producer in Quebec.

Alexandre obtained his LLB (with honours) from Université de Sherbrooke in 2021. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Young Bar Association of Montreal. Alexandre also works with international organizations. He notably completed a research project in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in addition to being an executive member of Young Diplomats of Canada.
