A leading international tax advisor, Drew brings clarity and pragmatism to clients’ complex cross-border tax issues

Drew Morier is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s National Tax Group based in both Toronto and Calgary. With a broad international tax practice including advisory and transactional work, Drew advises some of Canada’s largest multinational corporations and international clients on their complex cross-border M&A, financing, corporate reorganization and restructuring transactions.

With decades of experience, Drew brings trusted, strategic tax advice to clients in some of the most important sectors of the Canadian economy including the oil and gas, mining, energy, real estate, private equity and financial services sectors. His industry knowledge and pragmatic, commercial approach help him deliver tailored advice that is in lockstep with clients’ strategic business objectives. His deep understanding of the evolving international tax landscape allows him to design innovative, tax-efficient structures for clients that comply with international tax laws and regulations.

When international tax disputes arise, Drew collaborates with our leading tax litigators to act as a subject-matter expert, ensuring clients’ interests are being advanced from all angles.

Beyond his practice, Drew has recently been an adjunct professor of international taxation at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law and is a sought after speaker and writer at the forefront of the latest developments in tax law. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the International Fiscal Association.

Drew earned his LL.B. and BCL from McGill University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 and the Alberta Bar in 2010.
