Peter Leigh is Counsel* in our Toronto Litigation Group.

Peter summered and articled at the firm and spent the first five years of his practice as an associate in Toronto’s litigation group. He then joined the Ministry of the Attorney General as a Crown Attorney in his hometown of Hamilton, where he prosecuted criminal trials and hearings related to fraud, breach of trust, sexual assault, property crimes, and guns and gangs. Peter started his own firm before rejoining McCarthys on a part time basis as contract counsel in its medical negligence defence practice.

Peter’s legal experience and initiatives at the firm give him a unique perspective and deep understanding of the legal issues facing health care professionals. Over the past ten years, he has defended hundreds of physicians, nurses, and clinics in civil, criminal, administrative and regulatory proceedings across the province and at all levels of court. Peter was recently ranked by “Best Lawyers, Ones to Watch” in health law.

Peter received his law degree from the University of Windsor in 2015. Prior to that, he served as an infantryman in the Canadian Armed Forces, taught as an elementary school teacher in Busan, South Korea, worked on a diamond drill in British Columbia, and led an irrigation crew in Hamilton. Peter brings to bear his experience, dedication, and fearlessness to every client’s dispute.
