Western Law, Ivey Business School

Shashank is entering his final year of the Juris Doctor program at Western Law. Prior to Western Law, he earned his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (integrated degree) from a national law university in India.

During his undergraduate degree, Shashank held key leadership roles at the university, including leading the moot court society. Before immigrating to Canada in 2022, Shashank worked with full-service law firms in India where he practiced business law. For the three years he practiced law in India, he was involved in advising private equity funds and large institutional clients in their strategic investments in and outside India.

At Western Law, Shashank has been integrally involved with the Western Business Law Clinic. During his first year at Western, his team placed second in the Torys LLP Negotiation Competition (law school round) and the team went on to represent Western Law at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition in Montréal.

Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Shashank is deeply invested in fostering inclusivity and awareness within the LGBTQ+ community, evident through his involvement with Western OUTLaws. For Summer 2023, Shashank was selected as the McCarthy Tétrault LLP Business Law Intern to work with CIBC, where he worked on diverse assignments.

Recently, Shashank presented his research paper titled “Same Sex Marriage: Upholding Minority Rights versus Judicial Caution” at the 17th Annual Canadian Law Student Conference organised by University of Windsor, Faculty of Law.

As a first-generation immigrant, Shashank finds fulfillment in connecting with fellow immigrants, embodying empathy and understanding within his interactions. In his spare time, he indulges in activities such as rollerblading, culinary exploration, and watching FRIENDS.
