On September 27, 2022, Québec lithium miner Sayona Mining signed a deal with mine operator L. Fournier & Fils for a four-year C$200 million contract to advance mining operations at its North American Lithium (“NAL”) operation.

The four-year contract is one of the largest such contracts signed in Québec's mining history. Sayona and its joint venture partner Piedmont formally approved the restart of the NAL operations at a budget of C$98 million. The NAL restart project has been funded through cash contributions by both Sayona and Piedmont, each company having successfully completed significant capital raises in the first half of 2022.

McCarthy Tétrault advised North American Lithium with a team led by Anca Neacsu that included Benjamin Rivard (Business) and Dominique Amyot-Bilodeau (Environment).
